Laura Bush will write a memoir that will reach a large audience...of idioits!

I am truly offended.
I'm a feminist (read previous post pertaining to this F word) and as much as I am a liberal, I try to give everyone a fair shot.

Laura Bush will disclose details about her family life during her stay in the White House. Since she has a better reputation than her husband right now publishers thought it was best to put her book first, then wait for W. to put his out when his reputation gets better. I won't hold my breath for that one.

Here is the part that really bugs me, she will write it like she was a 1950s housewife, keeping things simple and domestic, leave the complicated political jargon to her award winning husband, Mr. Bush.

Mort Janklow, who represented Ronald Reagan had something to say about Ms. Bush and First Ladies in general: "The wives of presidents generally write books that have a greater public interest. Wives usually write from a personal point of view - instead of talking about government policy, they talk about when the dog came to the White House and had to be paper-trained. Husbands usually try to rewrite history." HOW OFFENSIVE, I mean Eleanor Roosevelt did a little more than potty-train her dog while in the White House! And what's her name, Hilary Clinton, she totally sat back and did nothing while Mr. Clinton was in the Oval Office.

That quote takes a huge step backwards for women in politics. No matter what they do, many will only remember them as docile figures with no brain of their own.
One thing I will say is Laura Bush did not impress me as a first lady. No matter how smart she actually was, she never stood up for anything she believed in, was always coy and obedient to her champion husband, and did what she was told (basically stand there and make W. look more human-like).
Plus, her "No Child Left Behind" education plan completely failed and I don't remember her doing anything to save it besides doing a commercial stating the importance of reading.
