Xx my heart yet Friendly Fires extinguished their own flame

Commodore ballroom. Thursday night. Anticipation...and not for the headlining band.

Someone should talk to Nylon (who put on this Winter tour) and tell them they mixed up the line-up.

The Xx, known for their dream pop ambient chill rock busted onto the scene a couple years ago, but their firt time in Canada was no dissapointment. Plus, the mystery man in the back running the drum set/machine held the ensemble together quite nicely and made me forget that their key boardist wasn't there (apparently she had to drop out due to exhaustion). Their dark style stayed true to their milky sweet sounds and I couldn't have asked for anything more. Oh wait, yes I could, they could've played longer!
The Xx, originally from London, played their own shows on the east coast but for some reason they jumped on the Friendly Fires bandwagon and is their opening act for the west coast leg of the tour. My suspicion is that they assumed no one on the west coast knew of them, but the turnout definitely proved them wrong. The majority of the people I talked to were actually more excited to see the Xx than the headliners, which is not common.
Now I'm not dissing Friendly Fires, they ain't bad. The lead singer danced like a snake having a seizure and the drummer was spot on, however whoever was doing their sound board should go back to school to brush up on his skills. You couldn't hear any of the lyrics and the horn section was pretty muted throughout the show.
Nevertheless, more than a few of their songs got me swaying my hips and all in all they weren't half bad.
Still though, gotta give props to the Xx, you guys (+ andro girl) did not dissapoint.
