Please vote on Bill AB 656 to tax California oil companies (and redirect those taxes to schools)

Did you know that in the golden state of California oil companies are NOT taxed on the oil they take out of the ground?

Yup, that's right and no, I didn't stutter.

Despite making record profits in recent years, ($18. 5 billion in 2008 to be exact) California is the only state that doesn't have an oil severance tax. Other states like Texas and Alaska use those taxes to fund their public services, including schools.
For stereo-typical purposes only, I am in shock that crazy red-neck Texas actually redistributes its oil tax back into its public schools while liberal-save-the-world California does not?!

As students across California are protesting against the destruction of public higher education, it's time we taxed oil companies instead of students.

I just took a Courage Campaign pledge to support AB 656, a bill that would create an oil severance tax. It will generate $2 billion a year to help roll back the fee hikes and make college affordable again:

We can't let the oil companies get a tax break while students and their parents struggle to afford the soaring cost of college.

According to the last census taken in 2006, roughly only one quarter of Americans (%28) has a Bachelor degree. If we don't pass this bill I'm sure that percentage will dwindle which is a real shame.

Don't hate the player...hate the game aka don't blame the citizens blame the system!
