Everyone in the rest of Canada loves to hate Toronto and some might say for good reason. Coming from the west coast I think I have a bias against big cities. There are too many people which causes everyone to be a bit too self-involved and less considerate. There is too much noise and too much hustle and bustle when all you want is a little piece of quiet. "Nature" in a big city is a man-made park surrounded by a concrete jungle and yet everyone you meet cannot stop talking about how this "amazing" city is the best place on earth. Sorry, I need more quiet, more greenery, less people but more of them being considerate.
I digress.Toronto doesn't suck when you have good people to show you around and once you wade through the "Toronto is the mecca of the Universe" speeches, it really is a lovely city. Here are a couple things that don't suck about Toronto.
1) Dogs on the metro. Toronto allows you to bring your dog on the subway and I think that is a great way of promoting public transportation and acknowledging that people have animals like dogs as pets. I think cities like Vancouver should adopt this so they don't have to spend extra money grabbing a cab when Sparky is sick and needs to go to the vet.
2) Mill Steet Lemon Tea Beer: This is the best summer time shandy I've had in a can. It's a beer mixed with lemon and earl grey tea. Did I mention its also 5%? Ain't nothing wrong here.
3) Trash cans: Ok, everyone is like, "why did you take a photo of a trash can?" Why? Because Toronto knows how to make them. The city might be big and dirty but these babies are everywhere and they have them organized according to trash, recycling and cigarettes, oh my! Vancouver might complain about litter but with their lack of garbage cans they could really learn a thing or two about how Toronto does it.
3) Cute statues to designate different neighbourhoods: I don't know why a cat on a chair is a cue to know you are in China town but I like that Toronto uses their creative license to make these things. I was certainly entertained.
4) Vegetarian friendly: The city is big and it caters to my kind quite nicely.
