I'm a very active citizen and i'm extremely active within my community, but I'm not a team player. What does that mean exactly?
Well, it basically means that after moving out of the U.S I have realized that no matter how much "change" is proposed, nothing is going to get done based on the fact that the U.S. system is archiac and broken. It's inefficient to say the least. The foundation of the governmental system is flawed and needs major renovations in order to run properally. Way back in the day (like Founding Fathers days) Thomas Jefferson proposed that the U.S. revolutionize its political system every 7 years so that it can change according to the times and adapt to best suit the needs of the people. Opponants did not agree with him and it was not put into place. Although I don't believe we should do as France does and change its republic everytime they cry over spilt milk, but the its the foundation of government that is flawed.
So, what kind of renovations am I proposing? Well these are just off the top of my head and if a niave 20-something who spends way too much time looking at cute animals can propose this, I'm assuming that "brilliant" minds in Washington can do the same.
So....America, you need a make-over!
- Let's cap campaign spending (seriously!)
- bring in proportional representation (if you don't know what that means check out New Zealand or Germany, I like how they do it)
- limit if not elminiate the influence lobbyists in Washingtion (if you don't want the government in your bedroom, corporations shouldn't be there either)
- bring back party discipline (or at least have it, meaning no rogue politicans voting all crazy like and not getting punished for it)
- actually hold politicans accountable when they don't live up to their campaign promises (duh!)
- and, take away fixed terms! Ya, I said it. It's absurd that the president is only in office for 4 years. The year after he gets in, he (or maybe someday she) is basically campaigning again to stay in power. How is anyone going to get anything done when they are constantly paranoid of getting the boot?
