42 BILLION DOLLARS! They reported that amount in 2008, the world the day stood still and said, "damn we're screwed (in a financially devastating kind of way)"
And all along I thought that no one was left unscathed by the financial crisis, and here we have oil companies reporting record profits!
I'm sure this news is a little more upsetting to the individual just trying to scrape by, but if you would like to read the whole article, click here.

It's not surprising at all. Exxon is tied tight to the Iraq War, and has made out quite well from fueling all those Hummers at inflated/unstable prices.
"Dean Baker, Co-Director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research has estimated that 40 cents out of every $3 dollars a gallon of gasoline is war profit. This is profit not related to any increase in productivity but simply a rise in oil prices related to the war."
