America used to be the land of the free, where the American dream consisted of a meritocracy, where hardwork paid off.
Well, now that so-called "American dream" has been demolished and workers have to brutally fight for their labour rights.
On January 29th, Obama just signed the The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, after it passed in both the House and Senate The historical significance of that moment marks the importance of the law to workers around the country.
But, why didn't I hear about this? I definitely have heard way too much about the alleged closing of Guantanamo Bay (which should be closed), but this piece of legislation seems to important to go under the radar.
So what is the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act (aka Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act)?
In a nutshell it states, "This new law restores protections eroded by the Supreme Court's decision in Lilly's case and will allow millions of Americans to challenge companies that fail to provide pay equity," according to Alliance for Justice who worked endlessly for two years to pass this legislation and restore workers rights.
Even though he's only been in office for less than a month, I'm totally diggin' what Obama's doing.
It won't be easy for Obama As the Onion (a satirical paper) stated the day after the election, "Black Man Given Nation's Worst Job." And, in these incredibly tough times, Obama appears to be steadfast.
