Blemish on feminism: Globe and Mail opinion piece says only men write blogs and for good reason.

Hmmmm....
Not really sure how to address this one.
Click here to find out why I've decided to rant about this.
So, Margaret Wente has an opinion about women and blogging and it ain't pretty. Funny thing is she claims that we don't do it. Us women, although we do have opinions we have better things to do them express them in silly things like blogs.
The funny thing is there is not much that separates the Globe and Mail opinions column to the male dominated (or so she would like to think) blog world.
So who's calling the kettle black Ms. Wente?

Ms. Wente's opinion piece is a bold statement claiming that women such as herself are too modest, humble, and oh so proper to write impulsive, invigorating blogs. That thrill men feel from writing blogs is something that women do not feel, because we are too busy being pregnant and caring for our husbands, right?

No, not really but I do believe the article does ring true to many of the stereo types women through the ages have tried to dismantle. She states in her opening paragraph that the reason she doesn't write a blog is the same reason,

"The answer is pretty much the same as why I don't get a souped-up snowmobile and drive it straight up a mountain at 120 kilometres an hour into a well-known avalanche zone. It's more of a guy thing. "

There were so many wrong things with that sentence I don't know where to begin.

First of all, she basically states that she doesn't blog just as she doesn't do other fun things like ride snowmobiles...this chick sounds wack attack to me. Remind me not to invite her para-sailing, surfing, kayaking or anything that sounds remotely fun.

Second, very poor form to use an example like the link provided, where three died in a snowmobile event that took place a little over two weeks ago. Do I need to say it? TOO SOON, oh ya and if that was a clever attempt at comic timing....booooo!

Third, she basically wraps up that craptastic sentence with the the one phrase that still haunts feminists today....ITS A GUY THING!

What exactly is a guy thing, Ms. Wente? If I didn't do all the "things" that apparently belonged to guys then I wouldn't have watched the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, gone to university or been proud of my battle wounds from rock-climbing. Life is less fun when you categorize things in gender columns and its really irritating when someone of fairer sex does it.

Lastly, she claims that women have opinions (thanks for mentioning that) but alas, we have no interest in blogging. Which decade are we in? Maybe she's been watching too much Madmen but her "opinion" piece lacks clarity, in other words.....you're a hypocrite.

Oh, and I could've saved my breath by just clicking here. And no, they are not all fashion and make-up blogs.
