You would think since the 21st century revolves around cell phones that companies would make cell phone use easier and cheaper to entice customers to use there cell phones more. NOT IN CANADA!!!
Minister of Industry Jim Prentice said Friday the government had no intention of introducing new legislation to regulate cellphone companies over changes in text messaging services. This came in response to Telus and Bell (two prominent cell companies) choosing to charge customers who do not buy "text bundles" extra for INCOMING texts. WTF!

And that is not all. Rogers (another prominent cell company) is the only provider that has the iphone right now, and the charges they add to users who have the iphone are the 2nd most costly in the world.

Now, you may not think this is bad but let me put this in perspective for Europeans and Americans (and many others) who do not know how stupid Canadian cell phones are.
1) you pay for outgoing AS WELL AS incoming calls.
2) Calling other cities, even in your own province, is not covered and charged extra.
3) you must also pay extra for voice mail and caller id (but they don't tell you that when you purchase your plan).
Now, I don't have any grand solutions as of this moment, but Canadians should be aware of how much they are getting screwed. I know the world is not fair, but this is totally taking advantage of the free-market system we live in by charging loyal customers extra for a service they weren't not previously charged for.

Banani, try living in another "cool" (but in lots of ways, stupid) country, it's called New Zealand. To call anyone on another cell phone is $1.50/minute. To call at night or on a local line is only slightly cheaper. So everyone texts... good for future brain cancer statistics, I suppose. But even texting costs .20/each! compared to only .30/each to text over to you in Canadia or friends in the USA. I mean, what gives, man? How bout some fuckin decency??? Let's become lobbyists. For ourselves.
