I am a vegetarian for many reasons, but the horrible treatment of animals in factory farms cannot be tolerated.
I don't care if you eat meat or not, caging animals, overfeeding them, and subjecting them to utterly inhumane treatment is unacceptable, and not because animals have feelings too, but you are going to eat that crap, so why not make sure it is better quality.
That is where California's Proposition 2 comes in. It is calling for factory farms to have way higher standards including making it illegal for animals like cows and pigs to be caged their entire lives.
This NY Times blog explains what the proposition is and why it is important to vote for it. It also explains why I continue to be a vegetarian, and no, he does not guilt trip meat eaters.
If we are trying to be more conscious consumers with regards to our environment, why not include animals as well.
