Steven Harper is a bit of a connundrum. I didn't want to like him and even though he's smart, he's taking politics too personally. Before, I get on to his crazy move in Parliament yesterday, I will just point out a couple things about him.
1) He is smart. As a business man he DOES have economic experience, and even though he is sometimes called, "the Canadian Bush," he is much much much smarter.
2) He has won two minority governments. For those not well versed in Canadian politics, it means that he did not get a majority in the house so he does not have the power to do whatever he wants (whereas in the States the Prez has a lot more executive power, regardless of who is the majority).
3) No one trusts him. Seriously, in a CBC poll taken during the last election (which happened two months ago, people said his biggest flaw was not being able to trust him.
This man takes politics too seriously. what happened to ruling for the good of society.
Well, looks like Harper disregarded that last part.
Harper shut down Parliament on Thursday in an unprecedented attempt to keep his government in power, fending off a no-confidence vote he was all but certain to lose.
Less than two months after winning re-election, Harper successfully asked the unelected representative of the head of state for the power to close down Parliament until Jan. 26, hoping to buy enough time to develop a stimulus package that could prop up the economy.

He says he wants to address the economy, but since the two other parties (the Liberals and the NDP) have a coalition against him, I'm sure he's desperately trying to buy time.
Liberal leader Stephane Dion said, "For the first time in the history of Canada the prime minister is running away from the parliament of Canada."
Well said, Dion. To read all the juicey politic gossip, click here!
