Some people like to argue about the merit of the United Nations and whether or not its efficient or not. Well, considering they just gave a very prestigeous title to a cartoon charcater, i'm thinking not that efficient and freaking stupid as well.
The UN has named Tinkerbell the "Honorary Ambassador of Green" to promote taking good care of the environment. I can think of many many distinguished HUMANS that would be more worthy of the title but considering the cartoon is sexy and has a smidge of green on her means that she is just as qualified right?! She doesn't even speak!!!!!
This is really freaking annoying because I'm sure they even had an official meeting and wasted official time to figure out who their new Green ambassador was instead of ya know, doing work!!!!!
In the time they spent figuring that out thousands in Pakistan morn the loss of their families due to a suicide bombing that took place last week. Afghanistan lies in ruins with little help from the UN, part of China is so polluted that the birth defects a more normal then inconsistent.
Oh ya, they even had a special ceremony in New York to initiate the cartoon, a freaking cartoon!
A man-made drawing takes the environmental ambassador title away from some very deserving people and it just sickens me. the United Nations is not Disneyland.
Some critics say by honouring Tinkerbell with the title it will draw more attention around the idea of environmental sustainability, but that sounds like green washing to me. Furthermore, anyone who is more interested in protecting the enviroment because a cartoon tells me rather then a distinguished scientist should think twice about their moral priorities. Then again, Captain Planet did a pretty good job at that. Why wasn't Captain Planet honoured?
Sorry, I digressed a bit. The main point of this entry is that if you were wondering whether the United Nations is still an efficent organization comitted, don't ask me ask the green faery, oh wait she's just a freaking drawing!!!!
This is just perfect, instead of an actual newspaper reporting this news (if you even call it that) you can click here to have tabloid magazine OK spill all the juicy deets.
