Health and wellness in the new year

I just came back from this health and wellness workshop my work sent me to and it was really eye opening, which is why i'm going to share what I learned with all (meaning one) of you.

A doctor and a personal trainer tag teamed the lecture and they really put in perspective how stress is a silent killer in the work place. Long hours and looming deadlines make us throw health and wellness out the window but they are the silent killers because no one dies of stress but the number one cause of death in Canada and the US is stress related: heart disease.
And if we need a better excuse then living longer to make us healthier, it saves us money too. But eating right and exercising we save thousands in medical bills, which in turn saves money for your work. It's basically a freaking win-win situation and anyone who disagrees with me is probably very insecure and ashamed of their lifestyle (hey, I smoke, i'm totally guilty).

So, considering its the new year and most of us made new years resolutions to get healthier here are some useful lifestyle links to get you started on the path to a healthier and happier life.

My Yoga online has free yoga videos you can do in your own home (so no excuses for shitty weather)

The Art of living foundation is the largest NGO in the world and has been growing in Vancouver exponentially in the past year. They offer courses for adults and youth (under 30), for breathing (to eliminate mental toxins) and self-improvement.

Vancouver meditation talks about all the benefits of meditation and provides resources for meditating anywhere (I don't care if you think this is hippy crap, I'm down with whatever makes you live longer and happier).

We could all eat better, so here are some helpful guides the Canadian government has created to help you do so and be more educated about it.

This site called body building (don't be intimidated by the name even though I was) has everything you need for a new healthy life style from diet plans to exercise regimes.

Cheers and may the fittest person win!
