Why is socialism so bad for America? All the other developed countries seem to like it

People ask me, "When are you going to leave Canada and come back to the States?"

I've thought this through and my main reason has to do with socialism. I don't understand why America is so against socialism.

I know I know, most still think

socialism = communism = unspeakable evil

But times they are a ch-ch-chaning.

America is the only devleoped country that isn't socialist. No free medicine or subsized education.

I know we are all distrustful of the government, but before we distrust socialsim, lets revisit what it means.

Here is what it means to me:

In a world where we are inevitably dealing with a globalized free-market system, we must have governmental measures put in place to insure that this "free-market" doesn't get out of control. This is why America is totally screwed. Republicans (especially Reagan) deregulated every sector of the economy so that companies could be uncontrollably greedy at the expense of the taxpayer.

So when things get rough in a free-market system what do you do? You are suppossed to let the market work itself out. America tried that and it didn't work. Allen Greenspan, chairman of the Federal Reserve, even stated that he tried to let the market fix itself, and it FAILED.

That's where socialism comes in. Oh wait, in America there is only socialism for the rich.

Example: the $700-billion bailout plan.

The rich get rescued from being uncontrollably greedy and the tax payer gets an empty promise that banks won't be a greedy.

So, right now, America= socialism for the elite = free-market failrues for everyone else.
